"Be holy, for I, the Lord your God, am holy." How many times had I read that verse and thought, "How could God ask the impossible of me?" There was no way I could be perfect and sinless. Quite frankly, I wasn't even sure I wanted to go that far. It would be too much work, too difficult, and likely not very fun. Don't get me wrong, I was a good Christian. I read the Bible, prayed, attended Mass weekly, and was generally good to others. But holiness was not in the cards. I can't explain why or how it happened, but one day, I became curious as to the Hebrew meaning of the word holy. I looked it up, and it was like lightning came down from the sky and hit me. Holiness has nothing to do with perfection and sinlessness. Holiness is being set apart for God's purpose, His will. I scrambled to see what other biblical concepts I had gotten wrong all my life. I found out that unholy means "common," not "evil," and sin means "missing the mark" of holiness. As I applied these concepts to my spiritual life, everything began to change. It was crazy. All my feeble attempts to reduce sin in my life by being more religious didn't work. But as I detached myself from myself and from the world, I found inner peace and abundant life, which previously eluded me. I am still not perfect. I am still not sinless. But I am holy. This book is a sharing of things I have learned along my own path of holiness. I pray this book is a lightning bolt from the sky to assist readers in their own path of holiness.
